Authority Having Jurisdiction
The AHJ is the local government entity: typically a city or county building department: that reviews solar permit applications, schedules inspections, and issues final approvals. Every jurisdiction has its own forms, timelines, and communication habits.
In solar EPC operations, the AHJ is a major source of coordination overhead. Permit status emails arrive at unpredictable times, revision requests come with short deadlines, and inspection schedules shift. Tracking all of this manually across multiple jurisdictions consumes an estimated 8–12 hours per week for a mid-size EPC.
